Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film

Brooks Institute’s Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film helps students prepare for a variety of opportunities in motion picture production for traditional and emerging media markets. The film degree offers a deeply immersive, practical learning experience that promotes creative expression, best practices, and collaboration. Students experience the art of storytelling through the visual language of film while also exploring business topics related to the visual arts.   

Brooks Institute’s film degree program challenges students to build their knowledge of film through a hands-on teaching approach from instructors who are accomplished professionals. Students have access to industry-current facilities and equipment as they complete 66 credits of core courses that cover a range of film production topics, including narrative and commercial filmmaking and screenwriting. These film classes culminate in a production workshop and portfolio experience showcasing student work. In addition, film degree students can broaden their understanding of the business of film through nine credits in business courses and broaden their foundation with 45 credits in general education.

Brooks Institute’s BFA in Film enables students to apply their personal voice and aesthetic to film as they study the technical and creative aspects of the media. Film classes build foundational filmmaking skills to develop globally-minded students skilled in visual literacy, problem solving, communication, and ethics. The curriculum has been developed to help prepare media industry professionals who understand how to connect with diverse audiences and use emerging technologies in motion picture production.

Through an exploration of all aspects of film making including, lighting, digital production, screenwriting, editing, directing and audio, students pursuing a Bachelor's degree in film can learn comprehensive knowledge that combines technical expertise and creative style with business best practices.

Graduating students should be equipped to:
