January 15, 2013

The Brooks Institute Visual Journalism department welcomes our first guest speaker of 2013, Amie Williams.

Amie Williams is an award-winning producer/director specializing in documentary film and video for television, NGOs and political campaigns. Her films, such as the feature length "We Are Wisconsin," "No Sweat" and "Uncommon Ground" have won numerous awards, including the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation Peace Grant, the International Documentary David Wolper Award, a National Endowment for the Arts Media Grant, and the SONY/Streisand Award for emerging female filmmakers.

Amie is also the founder of Global Girl Media, a nonprofit group that teaches disenfranchised teenagers in America and abroad (South Africa, Morocco) to use digital journalism for self-empowerment.

We will be showing Amie's multi-award-winning documentary "We Are Wisconsin" and follow with a robust Q&A.

The screening is open to the public.
